Oregon’s Own Naturally Grown Bigleaf Maple Syrup

Nestled in the upper Northwest corner of Oregon lies an abundance of the native bigleaf maple tree (Acer macrophyllum), also known as the Oregon Maple. This long-living tree is native to the coastal ranges of Alaska to Southern California and is the largest maple tree in North America, reaching a height of over 100 feet in some areas.

True to its name, the bigleaf maple produces unusually large 5-lobed, palm-shaped leaves from its branches, measuring up 12 inches in width.

Unfortunately, the bigleaf maple is greatly overlooked and is considered a non-essential tree with landowners and the timber industry since these trees do not offer much of an economical value. We hope the emergence of producing maple syrup from the bigleaf maple tree will change how the industry sees the value of these magnificent trees.

We’re Oregon Producers of Bigleaf Maple Syrup.

Locally tapped and produced at Condea’s Farm in Clatskanie, Oregon, our syrup is made from 100% pure bigleaf maple sap. It takes 80 to 100 gallons of sap to produce just one gallon of syrup—twice the amount needed for East Coast sugar maples.

Sap flow requires a unique combination of freezing nights and warmer days, typically occurring from late November to early March. Once the buds break, the sap turns bitter, marking the end of the season. Unlike the colder East Coast, our milder Pacific Northwest climate makes the sap harvest more intermittent.
